Publisher Setup Guide
Everything needed to get your branded CrossEights Daily edition live. The core work is a single iframe on one page — most publishers are done in under ten minutes. Steps 5 and 6 are optional improvements you can make later.
1 Sign up and collect your three links
Complete the form at crosseights.com/publishers/signup. Your edition is created immediately — there is no approval queue. The confirmation email contains:
- Embed address — https://crosseightsdaily.com/p/your-slug
- Copy-and-paste embed code — the iframe snippet below, pre-filled with your slug
- Private stats page — a tokenised URL, no login required
2 Confirm your email address
Click the confirmation button in that email. Unconfirmed editions are switched off automatically after seven days, and the confirmed address is the one we use to reach you about changes. The link is valid for seven days; if it lapses, email support@crosseights.com for a fresh one.
3 Paste the embed code onto your page
Drop the iframe into the page template, article body, or CMS block where you want the puzzle. No script tags, no dependencies, no build step.
Notes on the attributes: allow="clipboard-write" enables the share button; loading="lazy" keeps the puzzle out of your initial page load. If your CMS strips iframes in the rich-text editor, use its raw HTML or custom embed block instead.
4 Check placement and sizing
- Give it at least 320px of usable width. Below that the grid and keyboard get cramped.
- 900px height is a sensible starting value. The frame reports its own height to the parent page and resizes itself, so the value is only the pre-load reservation.
- Avoid closed accordions, hidden tabs, and carousels — the puzzle needs to be visible to measure and size itself correctly.
- Ad slots above and beside the frame are entirely yours; just don't overlay them on the frame itself.
- Link to the page from your games or puzzles menu so readers can find it daily.
5 Register any additional domains
Your edition only runs on the website you registered and its subdomains. Embedding it elsewhere shows a short "not available on this site" notice instead of the game. If you run more than one property, or use a separate staging domain, email support@crosseights.com with the hostnames and we'll add them.
6 Optional: serve it from your own subdomain
Recommended, but not required. In the copy-and-paste setup the frame is served from our domain, which Safari and Firefox treat as third-party storage — some readers will be asked for their name again and can lose their streak between visits. Daily scores and your leaderboard are unaffected either way.
The fix is one DNS record: a CNAME pointing puzzle.yourdomain.com at our host. Two minutes in your DNS provider, no change to your page or to the markup beyond swapping the iframe src. Email support@crosseights.com and we'll send the exact record and confirm once it resolves.
7 Watch your numbers
Your private stats page needs no login — keep the link internal, since anyone holding it can view the page. It shows visits, games started, completions, completion rate, players and returning players, with 7/30/90-day ranges, a daily chart, and CSV export. No reader names or individual scores appear there; those live only on your public leaderboard.
Troubleshooting
Blank frame: check the src for a typo and confirm no Content-Security-Policy frame-src rule on your site is blocking crosseightsdaily.com.
"Not available on this site": the hosting domain isn't on your allowed list — send it to support and we'll add it.
Frame doesn't resize: usually a fixed height or overflow:hidden on a wrapping element, or the frame starting inside a hidden container.
Build error in a React, Next.js or Vue page: the snippet is plain HTML, so a JSX file will reject attributes like style="...", frameborder and allowfullscreen. Convert them to style={{ ... }}, frameBorder and allowFullScreen (Vue templates accept the HTML as-is), or render the snippet with dangerouslySetInnerHTML.
